Mariners' Nelson Cruz Blasts Ball Out of Safeco Field During Batting Practice

Even though it came during batting practice, Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz is now the proud owner of the best home run of the 2016 MLB season.

Actually, check that. Nobody will top New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon's legendary dinger.

But Cruz can lay claim to the longest home run.

Before Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins, Cruz blasted a ball out of Safeco Field. No, not just into the stands. Out of the stadium completely. That takes some serious strength.

According to the Mariners, this is the first time anyone has accomplished the feat in the 17-year history of the ballpark:

Imagine what the Seattle slugger could do in a home run derby.

While he had the highlight of the night, Cruz's bat went silent during the game. He went 0-for-4 with a walk in a 6-5 loss.
