Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours, Players Eyed by Jose Mourinho

Stuart NewmanMay 28, 2016

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola has cast doubt over the mercurial Swede’s proposed move to Manchester United this summer.

The 34-year-old is rumoured to be one of the first names in line to join Jose Mourinho’s revolution at Old Trafford, yet Raiola told Swedish newspaper Expressen that nothing has been decided yet and that Ibrahimovic’s destination will be a surprise—via Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News:

"

We have not decided anything yet. I think it will be a surprise in the end. Everyone is harping on about only United, United, United. There are some clubs in England, a few clubs in Europe, clubs outside Europe, but everyone assumes that he must go to Manchester United, but it is not true. The club that buys him do not have to pay a transfer fee. This means that Ibrahimovic, who just finished a record season at PSG, can get an extra high salary. He is in a good bargaining position.

Ibrahimovic is likely to demand astronomical wages wherever he ends up, and it could well be a case of who can afford to keep him on the books.

Manchester United are a club that certainly fall into that category, but if a team from elsewhere, including the likes of money-happy China, have come in with an even bigger offer, the 34-year-old will have plenty to think about.

Even so, Sky Sports News HQ believes that a move to Old Trafford will appeal to Ibrahimovic, while Mourinho and Co. would welcome him with open arms:

Still, Raiola is concentrating on getting the right move for his client, rather than rushing into a deal, and that could mean stepping away from the Premier League:

"

It’s not important to arrange something quickly, I care only about arranging something with quality. I’m not in a hurry. No running behind me and chasing me. It’s about doing the right thing at the right time. The only thing we care about is quality. Let’s see what happens. But we have a nice period ahead of us now.

"

This could well just be Zlatan being Zlatan and keeping people guessing, but until the striker signs on the dotted line at Old Trafford, fans need to refrain from getting shirts printed.

Elsewhere, Mourinho is reportedly looking to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

Simon Rice of the Independent writes that the new United boss is a big admirer of Saul, and the club may be willing to trigger his £54 million release clause this summer.

Saul has been one of Atletico’s standout performers this term, with his displays defying his tender 21 years.

And although parting with so much cash for such a young star is always a risk, the midfielder looks to have the credentials for the big time.

These are exciting times at Old Trafford. Finally the club have a manager worthy of following in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps, while the names popping up on their transfer wish list will only give supporters encouragement.

United still have a long way to go if they’re to be a football superpower once again, but under Mourinho with the likes of Ibrahimovic in tow, it’s more than possible.
