The best bowling side in the competition were handed the ball in hand to start proceedings, as Gujarat elected to bat first. Unfortunately for the Lions, their top order continued to struggle, as three wickets tumbled for 63 runs before the arrival of Aaron Finch at the crease in the ninth over.
Gujarat improved under his leadership, with the Australian batsman striking a four and a six early on in his innings, going on to total 50 runs from 32 balls.ย

Eklavya Dwivedi was removed for five runs, withย Suresh Raina bowling leg before wicket after just five balls before Finch entered the scene. In spite of two single-figure displays in his previous two appearances, he looked composed at the crease, hitting seven boundaries and two sixes on his way to a half-century.ย
His dismissal in the 18th over saw Dwayne Bravo enter, but despite hitting four fours off 10 balls, Gujarat would end their day with a reachable target of 163 runs.
Cricket commentator Ayaz Memon felt Gujarat were unlucky to go no further in the competition:ย
Warner's spectacular showing was all the more impressive when taking his team-mates performances into consideration, with Yuvraj Singh and Bipul Sharma the only other players to face double-digit balls.ย
Sharma's partnership would prove decisive in the outcome of the clash, as he stopped the flow of wickets after entering play on 15.5 overs after the dismissal ofย Naman Ojha.ย The 32-year-old all-rounder made 27 off 11 runs, including three sixes, for a combined total of 46 off 3.3 overs alongside Warner.
Hyderabad celebrated the feat on social media:
India international Mohammad Kaif believes Warner should be spoken about in the same breath as RCB's two big hitters:
Warner, himself, struck the match-winning runs with four balls to spare after igniting early on in his innings. Displaying controlled precision, patience and strength, 29-year-oldย hit seven boundaries and a six as he reached his half-century milestone in the 11th over.
Compatriot and upcoming opponent Shane Watson took time out to praise Warner's performance with the bat:
From there, his run scoring dropped, but he helped keep his side in rhythm with the required rate to lead Hyderabad to victory and a first final berth.
Meanwhile, retired cricketer Aakash Chopra took to social media at the end of the match to applaud Warner's showing as Hyderabad the final:ย
Bangalore's Kohli remains at the top of the standings following 16 matches of competition, but Warner, second in the batting standings, has reduced the gap to a 150-run deficit with one match still to play.
The clash between Royal Challengers, who are built around their explosive attack, and Sunrisers, who usually win on the strength of their bowling, is one most neutral fans will be begging to watch and is expected toย be a fantastic matchup for the final.
