IPL Results 2016: Scores, Updated Schedule After Qualifier 2

Tom BeckMay 27, 2016

Sunrisers Hyderabad have sealed their place in the final of the 2016 Indian Premier League Twenty20 after a four-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions on Friday.

David Warner made an incredible unbeaten 93 off 58 balls to lead his team to glory after a tense chase, securing his eighth half-century of the season in Delhi.

With a 163 target in sight, pressure on Warner was reduced via the arrival of Bipul Sharma, as Hyderabad secured a final berth for the first time in their history.

Warner remained calm with the bat while all those around him lost their nerve, as the Australian almost single-handedly helped his side advance to the final.

The big hitter found the boundary with controlled precision, hitting seven boundaries and a six as he reached his half-century milestone in the 11th over. His run scoring slowed in the later overs but managed to keep check with the runs-required rate. The team found an able body in Sharma following his arrival at the crease.

Ex-international cricketer VVS Laxman hailed the Sunrisers and the performance of their star batsman:

Naman Ojha's ambitious shot to midwicket saw the arrival of Sharma in the 16th over. The 32-year-old all-rounder made 27 off 11 runs, including three sixes, for a combined total of 46 off 3.3 overs alongside Warner.

Cricket statistician Mohandas Menon detailed Warner's impressive total haul in the IPL:

SRH reached their target with just four balls to spare, with the captain suitably scoring the winning runs for his side.

Earlier in the contest, it was Gujarat who elected to bat first, but their top-field batsmen continued to struggle. Eklavya Dwivedi was removed for five runs, with Suresh Raina bowling leg before wicket after just five balls.

Aaron Finch prevented a complete meltdown after he arrived in the ninth over with his side 63 for three. The Australian found the boundary early on and struck a wonderful six on his way to a half-century off 32 balls before eventually removed by bowler and compatriot Ben Cutting.

Gujarat Lions' official account celebrated their batsman reaching the landmark:

Despite departing the previous two matches after single-digit scores, Finch looked comfortable with the bat and struck his 50 through seven boundaries and two sixes. However, he was dismissed in the 18th over after charging down the ground in a bid to crash another big effort. Unfortunately for him, he was only able to drag Cutting's full toss onto his pads and stumps.

Hotstar showcased Cutting's acrobatic fielding during the contest:

Finch had struck a decent partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who ended the innings unbeaten on 19 from 15 balls, as the duo combined for 51 runs across 4.5 overs. New Zealand's Brendon McCullum (32 off 29 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (26 runs from 19) were also noteworthy contributors, but Gujarat's batters were unable to match the big scoring that was yet to come through Warner.
