Champions League Final Betting Preview: Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid Odds

OddsShark.comMay 26, 2016

Two years ago, Real Madrid won its record 10th Champions League Final with a 4-1 victory against Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid will try to beat Atletico in the final for the second time in three years on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. ET as a +150 betting favorite (wager $100 to win $150) at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark when the teams meet at San Siro in Milan.

The three-way betting line in soccer also offers the opportunity to wager on a draw after regulation time, which was the case the last time the teams played each other for the title despite the final score looking lopsided.

Atletico led 1-0 on a goal by Diego Godin in the first half, but Real Madrid tied it up on a header by Sergio Ramos in the 93rd minute before pouring it on with scores by Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo in extra time. That was the first time ever two teams from the same city met in the final.

This time, Atletico will again be going for the upset as a +230 betting underdog while the odds of another draw happening is worth +210. Real Madrid will be tough to beat though behind top scorer Ronaldo, who has tallied a league-high 16 goals heading into the final. The second-best scorer in Champions League play this year had nine goals.

Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time leading goal scorer and has earned the same distinction with Real Madrid. However, despite all of his accolades some think the 31-year-old forward still needs to come through with a defining moment for his career on the big stage.

Unfortunately, he is playing during a time when Argentinian Lionel Messi has dominated as the best player of their generation, winning the Champions League Final last year with Barcelona along with a record five FIFA Ballon d'Ors. But a game-winning goal here versus Atletico could be the perfect way for Ronaldo to silence his critics.

Of course, Atletico will do everything possible to prevent that scenario from happening.

After topping Messi and Barcelona in the quarterfinals and Bayern Munich in the semifinals, anything is possible. Betting the total to go over 2.5 goals at +130 at the sportsbooks might be the safest option. A wager on under 2.5 goals has a price of -167 (bet $167 to win $100).
