Blair Walsh Talks Missed Field Goal vs. Seahawks, Kicking at TCF Bank Stadium

Joseph ZuckerMay 25, 2016

Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh has firmly moved on from the missed field goal that cost his team a spot in the divisional round of the 2015 NFL playoffs.

"My common message to [those who ask about the miss] is it's one moment," Walsh said Wednesday, per Mark Craig of the Star Tribune. "It won't define me."

With 26 seconds remaining in the Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks, Walsh sent a 27-yard attempt wide left, and Minnesota lost 10-9, via the NFL:

The 26-year-old said he has largely pushed the moment to the back of his mind, per Craig:

"

I'm way past the point of being upset about it or, you know, to the point where it bothers you like that. It's something I've already dealt with and gone through. On a day-to-day basis, no, I don't think about it. I really don't use it like that.

That initial month or so period, I definitely looked at it as motivation for me. But, like I said before, I had a good year. That was enough motivation for me going into this year.

"

The on-field conditions were a major storyline of the game. According to Lindsey Young of the Vikings' official site, the wind chill dipped to minus-25 before the game, and temperatures were so low the team's traditional Gjallarhorn shattered, per KARE 11:

Walsh discussed his approach when kicking in such brutal conditions:

"

It's always going to be easier indoors. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it's easier to kick at [TCF Bank Stadium] than it is inside. It's just you can take the elements out of it and focus on your form and your craft. You can forget about, 'Hey, man, it's minus-10 out today.' You get to go in there and act like it's a normal day outside.

"

Luckily for Walsh, U.S. Bank Stadium will officially open in a little over a month, and the Vikings will move into their new climate-controlled venue for the 2016 season.
