Gerard Pique Calls Out Madrid Media at Barcelona Parade for Double-Trophy Win

Rory MarsdenMay 24, 2016

Barcelona star Gerard Pique goaded the Madrid press following the Catalan giants' 2-0 Copa del Rey final victory over Sevilla by saying that the Catalan giants still managed to win with 10 men.

Javier Mascherano was sent off in the first half of Sunday's Vicente Calderon clash, and the game was tied at 0-0 after 90 minutes, but Jordi Alba and Neymar netted in extra time.

The victory confirmed a second consecutive domestic double for the Blaugrana, and Pique wasted little time in calling out Real Madrid as Barca presented La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies to their fans at the Camp Nou on Monday, per Sport:

"They always complain that we play against 10 and yesterday we were the ones who had to play with 10. And what happened? We won again."

It was an impressive performance from Barca against a Sevilla side who made life very difficult for the pre-match favourites, per Spanish football commentator Eduardo Alvarez:

Mascherano was given a straight red card in the 36th minute for a foul on Kevin Gameiro, and Barca played with a one-man disadvantage until Ever Banega was also dismissed in stoppage time after the 90 minutes.

Indeed, Barcelona eventually had a one-man advantage when Daniel Carrico was given his marching orders for a second yellow card deep into extra time, but Luis Enrique's side already had the match sewn up at that point.

MADRID, SPAIN - MAY 22: Javier Mascherano of FC Barcelona leaves the field after he was handed a red card by referee Carlos del Cerro Grande during the Copa del Rey Final between Barcelona and Sevilla at Vicente Calderon Stadium on May 22, 2016 in Mad

It topped off another brilliant season for Barcelona following their final-day confirmation of the Spanish title with a 3-0 victory over Granada.

They eventually pipped Real to the Spanish top flight by one point, surviving a major downturn in form during March and April when they went four Liga games on the bounce without a victory.

Pique rarely misses an opportunity to taunt Los Blancos and caused controversy earlier this season when he seemed to revel in Madrid's misery as they were ejected from the Copa del Rey, per Aaron Flanagan in the Mirror:

Undoubtedly, there will be plenty of Madridistas armed and ready to respond to Pique's latest jibe, especially if Los Blancos can win Saturday's UEFA Champions League final against Atletico Madrid—previewed below by Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe and Dean Jones:

Barca missed the chance to repeat their 2014-15 treble win this season as Atleti dumped them out of the Champions League in the semi-finals, and Real players and fans will be ecstatic if they can subsequently go on and win the famous European trophy for the 11th time.
