UNC Lacrosse Dedicates Upset Win vs. Notre Dame to Coach's Late Toddler
While coaching Ohio State in 2004, current North Carolina lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi lost his three-year-old son, Michael.
The toddler was struck and killed by an SUV driver in the parking lot of his preschool in Ohio.
On Sunday, the Tar Heels played their national quarterfinal contest against No. 3 Notre Dame in Columbus, Ohio. After pulling the 13-9 upset, Breschi tearfully revealed that his team dedicated the game to Michael.
“(Senior midfielder) Patrick Kelly spoke at breakfast this morning and dedicated the game to my son,” Breschi said on ESPN. “I’m so proud of them. Proud of all of them. Go Heels.”
Having advanced to the semifinals, Breschi and UNC will take on No. 7 Loyola Maryland at noon ET on Saturday.
