Florida Gators 2B Catches Defense Napping, Steals Home After Bases-Loaded Walk
May 22, 2016When Florida Gators senior Kelsey Stewart is on the basepath, opposing defenses better be alert at all times—because otherwise, she'll make you pay.
On Sunday, Stewart stole a run for Florida against the UCF Knights in the fourth inning of the Gainesville Regional final. After Gators outfielder Kirsti Merritt drew a bases-loaded walk, the Knights—minus third baseman Courtney Rotton—had a lapse in concentration and ignored the runners.
So, Stewart swiped home.
It was heads-up baserunning by the Gators upperclassman. When the defense checks out of the game, it's up to the offense to make it pay. And that's exactly what Stewart did.
Florida advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals with an 8-0 run-rule victory over UCF.
