Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez Rumours

James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo could both leave Real Madrid in the summer as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain wait in the wings.

Colombia superstar Rodriguez is thought to favour a switch to Old Trafford if he gives up his Galactico status, as reported by Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC.

Delaney reported that manager Zinedine Zidane's tactical preference for 4-3-3 has seen the attacking midfielder's stock plummet, opening a potential move to the Premier League with the new FA Cup holders. United are named as the player's "preferred destination" if he leaves the Spanish capital after the Real manager made him surplus to requirements.

However, it appears Rodriguez's family are settled in Madrid. The Daily Star's Alex Wood reported Rodriguez's wife, Daniela Ospina, told Hello magazine she wishes to remain in Spain.

"I'd rather stay here," she said. "Madrid is a lovely city. I feel very comfortable speaking the same language is something that helps. Also, you can eat very well."

The 24-year-old was expected to find his way back into a regular starting berth after the sacking of former boss Rafael Benitez in January, but Zidane has opted to confine the player to extended periods on the bench.

The Colombian only made 17 starts in La Liga in the 2015-16 campaign, according to WhoScored.com, contributing seven goals and eight assists.

Competition for his services will be fierce, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting PSG are bidding to tempt the talent to the French capital (h/t Sport Witness):

Rodriguez could quickly be followed out the door by Ronaldo after it was suggested his agent, Jorge Mendes, has already negotiated a departure to PSG.

Spanish football expert and author Guillem Balague recently told The Secret Footballer the iconic attacker could find his way to Ligue 1 if Real find a suitable replacement:

Rodriguez's sale would not surprise Madrid supporters, as he has not lived up to expectations this term.

The revolving door is constantly moving at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, and the player would fit United's need for a major signing.

Rodriguez needs a new challenge, and it is clear Zidane has a different direction in mind for his starting XI.

Ronaldo's exit would be a major shock, but he has been consistently linked with a transfer each and every summer in recent memory.

Like Rodriguez, Ronaldo may feel the time is right to find a new challenge, especially if Real capture the UEFA Champions League once again.
