Rio Olympics to Offer 3 Times as Many Condoms as 2012 London Games

Vanessa de BeaumontMay 20, 2016

Safe sex has been made a high priority at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, with three times the number of condoms offered than at the London Olympics four years ago.

According to the International Olympic Committee, about 450,000 condoms will be distributed for free through a clinic in the athlete village as well as vending machines for use by the 10,500 competitors and staff.

Another change: Nearly one-quarter of the contraception made available will be female condoms—to be offered for the first time.
