Chelsea Transfer News: Gonzalo Higuain Speaks Amid Blues Talk, Latest Rumours

Matt JonesMay 19, 2016

Reported Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain expressed his love for employers Napoli at the conclusion of a record-breaking season for the Argentina international.

According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, after signing a new kit deal with Nike worth a staggering £60 million a year, the Blues will target the forward. However, speaking with Ole (h/t CalcioMercato.com), it does not seem as though Higuain has any intention of leaving the Campania-based club any time soon:

"

In Naples I feel loved more than I have at any other club I've played for. When I scored the third...goal against Frosinone, the whole team celebrated with me.

I felt so happy. [Maurizio] Sarri has helped me so much, he explained how I could improve and we worked hard and succeeded. Now we just want to enjoy the moment, the team and the city deserve it.

The goal Higuain refers to was a record-breaker. It was his 36th of the Serie A campaign, topping a 66-year-old mark in the Italian top flight set by Gunnar Nordahl. Here is a look at all of the goals he netted during a stunning campaign:

It’s easy to see why the Stadio San Paolo crowd loves Higuain so much. When he joined the club in 2013, it was viewed as a major coup for Napoli, a team that has only recently retaken its place among the elite in Italian football. The forward is arguably the finest player the club has had since his incomparable compatriot Diego Maradona.

Higuain must love playing at the point of this side, too. Sarri has the entire attack geared toward conjuring opportunities for the striker, and the results, as evident in the previous clip, have been spectacular.

As these numbers from WhoScored.com show, it doesn’t take much for the 28-year-old to get on the scoresheet:

Chelsea would have to tweak their attacking blueprint if they were to land Higuain, whose playing style is different to the brutish Diego Costa. But he’s a player worth catering for, as he’s so effective with the ball at his feet in the area.

A new challenge might appeal to the player, although he seems settled in Naples, where he’s on his way to becoming a deity. Given the support he’s received and the way the team is built around him, perhaps the forward feels he can be the man to deliver a Scudetto to the Partenopei. That ambition would definitely throw a spanner in the works for the Blues.

Kwadwo Asamoah Agreement Reported

According to Calciomercatoweb (h/t Luke Gardener of the Daily Star), Chelsea have reached an agreement with Juventus utility man Kwadwo Asamoah about a future transfer.

As noted by Gardener, Gazzetta dello Sport previously stated the Blues were set to spend £20 million to sign the Ghana international, who is struggling for regular minutes in the first team in Turin. The previous source stated talks between Asamoah and Chelsea about a summer move are at an advanced stage.

Here is a look at what Asamoah, who thrived under incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at Juventus, would bring to the Premier League:

Under Conte's successor, Massimiliano Allegri, a change in style and ongoing injury problems have seen Asamoah fall out of favour. A move, therefore, may be ideal for him to kickstart his career under a coach who knows how to get the best out of him.

The 27-year-old has a lot to offer, and with a consistent run of games, he could be a force again in a variety of positions.

His energy, work rate and quality in possession made him one of the most underrated midfield men in football under the guidance of Conte; £20 million may seem steep, but if the Italian can help him reach those standards once again, it’d be a bargain for the Blues.
