Manchester United Transfer News: Romelu Lukaku Fee Revealed, Latest Rumours

Tom SunderlandMay 17, 2016

Manchester United will have to spend £65 million if they wish to sign Everton talisman Romelu Lukaku, who could leave the club before Euro 2016, according to the player's father. Plus, the Red Devils' pursuit of West Ham United's Reece Oxford is heating up.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Humo this week, Roger Lukaku not only revealed the Toffees' asking price, he also gave an idea when his son will move this summer (h/t Simon Jones of MailOnline):

"

Everton are asking around £65m for Rom. I think a transfer will be done before the Euros. Romelu will decide his future, but agents have the last word most of the time. I hope and I think Mino Raiola is an honest man.

Now, with Romelu it will be quickly arranged. Whether the transfer has been sorted? Almost. I think it will be in place before the European Championship. He won't go to Italy, because they keep it closed at the back, too difficult for an attacker.

What is certain, to continue to make progress, he needs to change clubs, but we are mainly engaged in making the right choice.

Those comments all point to a swift summer exit from Goodison Park, and with former manager Roberto Martinez having only recently left the helm, the Merseysiders are still in some form of disarray.

Kristof Terreur of Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws also provided some insight as to why Lukaku's price is so high, apart from the fact he's a sensational striker, who netted 25 goals in 46 games this season:

Homegrown status is a valuable asset to players in the Premier League, and United will be fond of the idea that Lukaku wouldn't contribute toward their foreign-born player quota.

Club captain Wayne Rooney has been missing in attack for much of this campaign, leaving youngsters Marcus Rashford, 18, and Anthony Martial, 20, to develop, but Lukaku would be considered a more senior force.

Paris Saint-Germain were mentioned by Jones as another European giant in the hunt for the player, but after finding success in England over the past five years, Lukaku may not be looking to leave the Premier League just yet.

Sky Sports Statto recently highlighted the Belgium international's terrific record under Martinez, even though his performances—as was the case with Everton in general—dried up toward the end of this season:

Another potential arrival at Old Trafford this summer is West Ham youngster Oxford, whom the Hammers would reportedly be willing to sell for a figure of £10 million or more, according to the Daily Star's Jamie Styles.

According to Sky Sports News HQ, Oxford recently rejected a contract extension with the east Londoners—his current deal expires in 2018—but he appeared to dismiss any chance of a move after tweeting on Tuesday:

Oxford looks like a tantalising option among Premier League clubs and has gathered a lot of attention since becoming West Ham's youngest player in 2015, making his debut at the age of 16 years and 198 days.

The Red Devils appear to be attracted to the versatile Englishman—who can play at centre-back or in central midfield—and is already making moves into England's under-19 setup.
