Michael Bennett Comments on Contract, Sam Bradford, Playing for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, who is set to make $16.5 million over the final two seasons of his four-year, $28.5 million deal, per Spotrac, is not happy with his current contract. 

"Any American wants to get paid more at their job," he said Tuesday on the Brock and Salk show on 710 ESPN Seattle, per ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia. "I don't think there's anybody that goes to work and says: 'Hey, I'm happy with how much I'm getting paid, and I love it. Don't give me any more money.' So that's how I feel too." 

Unlike his teammate, safety Kam Chancellor, who had a contract holdout that went on through the second week of the 2015 regular season, Bennett isn't making any threats.

"Why wouldn't I be at training camp?" he said. "Of course I'll be there. I'll see you there for sure."

Even if his contract isn't to his liking at the moment, Bennett doesn't want to play anywhere else. 

"Of course I want to be in Seattle as long as possible," Bennett said. "I love the city. I love the team. I love my teammates, love what's going on. I love how we do things. I just love it here."

The affectionate feelings stopped when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford came up. After signing a two-year, $35 million contract this offseason, per Spotrac, Bradford has at least $18 million guaranteed to be headed his way. 

However, when the Eagles traded up to the No. 2 spot in the NFL draft to take Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State, Bradford demanded a trade. According to ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan, he has since rethought the trade demand and is practicing with the team. 

Bradford's actions didn't sit well with Bennett, who said he "almost threw up" when he heard what the former No. 1 overall pick was doing:

I can't believe Sam Bradford is complaining about making $40 million in the next two years, and because he actually has to compete for a position. This guy, this guy right here definitely sets a bad tone of what a player should be.

If I was his teammate ... how can you play with a guy that doesn't want to compete at a high level and feels like his position should be solidified without even putting up the stats or the wins to back that up?

"

Luckily for Bennett, he'll have a chance to show Bradford how he really feels when the Seahawks take on the Eagles in Week 11. 

If Bennett is able to maintain the same level of play from the past three seasons, in which he recorded a combined 25.5 sacks, he will most likely get a contract more to his liking once free agency approaches.
