Arsenal Transfer News: Alvaro Morata Offer, Latest Kieran Tierney Rumours

James DudkoMay 17, 2016

Arsenal have reportedly submitted a "huge offer" for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, although the deal involves the Gunners working with the Spaniard's former club Real Madrid.

In a less-than-straightforward transfer saga, Arsenal are said to be already making moves to acquire Morata. Italian source Corriere dello Sport (h/t Metro's Tom Olver) has provided details: "The Gunners are dealing directly with Real Madrid who have the option to buy their former player back after the forward left the Bernabeu in 2014."

The report also stated Morata is one of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's "top targets" this summer, but Juventus are "desperate to keep hold" of the 23-year-old.

Wenger needs to recruit a class striker.

Having to work with Los Blancos is a reality for the Gunners, since the Madrid club is reportedly set to bring Morata back to the Spanish capital, according to Calciomercato.com: "Everybody knows that Real Madrid have decided to use their rebuy clause, and that they will bring the 23-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu and then sell him to the highest bidder."

Wenger needs a striker, and Morata boasts qualities suited to the game Arsenal want to play. Specifically, he's a natural target man with the height and strength to hold the ball up and link well with the Gunners' platoon of attacking midfielders.

It's what current centre-forward Olivier Giroud does for Wenger's men, work the manager values. Wenger appeared to confirm Giroud will be Arsenal's first choice up front again next season, per BBC (h/t Sam Long of the London Evening Standard).

Giroud continues to divide opinion among Arsenal fans.

Yet despite his 24 goals this season, per WhoScored.com, Giroud remains erratic as a finisher. The former Montpellier man went 15 Premier League games without scoring during the second half of this season.

Unlike Giroud, Morata has more dynamic qualities, namely defence-stretching pace and a little more composure as a finisher. This also isn't the first time Wenger has been linked with the young Spaniard.

Spanish source Onda Cero (h/t Jack de Menezes of the Independent) even reported Morata was set for a six-month loan switch to the Gunners back in December 2013.

The fee now being discussed is opulent, but Wenger has waited too long to upgrade his squad's options up front. Morata is a naturally gifted forward with room to get even better with the right coaching. He's perfect for Wenger and Arsenal.

£10 Million Bid Ready for Kieran Tierney

The Gunners are reportedly ready to bid £10 million for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. The Daily Record's Craig Swan provided details of Arsenal's interest:

"

Manchester City and Liverpool have also watched the teenager, but it is the Emirates outfit who have made the most serious moves and checks behind the scenes.

Such were the strength of initial scouting reports, Record Sport can confirm Arsene Wenger’s chief scout Steve Rowley has been sent by the boss to make personal checks.

"

Swan called a move a "genuine possibility." That would suit Wenger's seeming intention to add a young left-back to the ranks ahead of next season.

Leeds United's Charlie Taylor was recently linked with the Gunners, per the Sun (h/t Alex Wood of the Daily Star). Meanwhile, John Cross of the Daily Mirror suggested 19-year-old Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell is on the Arsenal radar. Metro's Mark Brus thinks FC Lorient's 22-year-old Raphael Guerreiro could join the Gunners.

Wenger is looking for a young deputy to Nacho Monreal, with Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph reporting current back-up Kieran Gibbs could be sold in the summer.

News his chief scout has been watching rising star Tierney only confirms how serious Wenger is to add more pace and potential to one side of Arsenal's defence.

But the Frenchman's top priority has to remain acquiring a match-winning striker who can both score and provide goals consistently next season.
