2016 NFL Win Totals: Panthers, Patriots, Packers Among Top Teams on Betting Odds

OddsShark.comMay 17, 2016

The sportsbooks don't seem to think anybody is going to run away from the pack in the National Football League this season; perhaps parity is upon us again.

Shortly after this spring's NFL draft, seven teams were pegged with a win over/under total of 10.5 for the season ahead at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. By comparison, last year three teams, the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks, went off with win totals of at least 11. Not one of those teams even manged to push that figure.

As it happens, seven other teams won at least 11 games last year.

Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers, after going 15-1 last season but laying an egg in the Super Bowl, lead that top tier of teams with a win total of 10.5. They're joined by the defending AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, defending AFC East champion New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and defending NFC West champion Arizona Cardinals.

Cincinnati won 12 games last year, while the injury-plagued Packers played under their total with 10 wins. The Patriots, of course, are still facing the prospect of playing the first quarter of this season without suspended quarterback Tom Brady.

The Steelers and Seahawks both won 10 games last year, while the Cardinals won 13.

A handful of teams were posted with win totals of 9.5, led by the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos. They're joined by a supposedly healthy Tony Romo and his Dallas Cowboys, a hopefully healthy Andrew Luck and his Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs and the defending NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings.

Elsewhere, the defending AFC South champion Houston Texans and their new quarterback Brock Osweiler were lined with an over/under of 8.5 wins, along with the Oakland Raiders, who are shooting for their first winning season since 2002.

In that same vein, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have won a total of 19 games over the last five seasons, were pegged with a win total of 7.5, along with the defending NFC East champion Washington Redskins.

The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles used the first two picks in the draft on quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. The Rams, for their first season back on the West Coast, were listed at 7.5 wins, while the Eagles, with a new head coach, were lined at seven wins.

Bringing up the bottom of the 2016 NFL betting board, the San Francisco 49ers, now guided by head coach Chip Kelly, were posted at six wins, the Tennessee Titans at 5.5 wins and the Cleveland Browns at 4.5 wins.
