Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho Announced for WWE Extreme Rules 2016 PPV

This won't be an ordinary steel cage match.

Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho will meet in the first-ever Asylum Match on Sunday at WWE Extreme Rules inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The Lunatic Fringe and Y2J were hyping up their showdown this weekend on Monday Night Raw when Ambrose announced Shane McMahon allowed him to pick the kind of match. The cage lowered with weapons hanging above it, including a barbed-wire two-by-four.

It's unclear what the stipulations are for this match, but it doesn't look like a simple escape from the cage will decide the victor.

The feud between Ambrose and Jericho has intensified since the day after April 3's WrestleMania 32 and may come to a head on Sunday.

Ambrose and Jericho met at WWE Payback on May 1, and Ambrose defeated the former WWE World Heavyweight champion. After Payback, Jericho hinted on Twitter he'd take some time off:

The next night on Raw, Ambrose interviewed Stephanie McMahon on his Ambrose Asylum in-ring talk show before Stephanie announced it would be cancelled in favor of Jericho's Highlight Reel. Jericho attacked Ambrose and eventually hit him over the head with his potted plant, Mitch.

Ambrose got revenge the following Monday by destroying Jericho's famous lit jacket and delivering his Dirty Deeds finisher on him.

The consensus opinion on this match, however, is this is a concept from TNA, as Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari and Donald Wood noted:

Putting these two in a cage-type match is a great idea, but there's reason to be skeptical. Ambrose's bout with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32 was a perfect example of a great buildup that led to a lackluster match. 

If Ambrose and Jericho have limits to what they're allowed to do on Sunday, it could be the same lackluster result.
