Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Gonzalo Higuain, Antonio Rudiger Rumours

Christopher SimpsonMay 16, 2016

Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly "seriously considering" a summer move to Chelsea, but if he should move to Stamford Bridge, it could spell the end of Diego Costa's time at the club.

That's according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague (h/t Joel Watson of the Daily Star), who noted:

"

Higuain is a target for Chelsea.

I think he would cost around €48m (£38m). Higuain is seriously considering it and if he does move to Stamford Bridge then there would be the possibility that Costa would have to be sold.

It's very difficult for Atletico Madrid, and Diego Simeone in particular. Simeone has told Atletico Madrid he only wants three players: Diego, Costa and Diego Costa.

He's determined to get him but it's not easy to get him as he will have to reduce his wages big time and I'm not sure Atletico will be able to put a huge offer on the table for him.

It's one to keep an eye in the future because they certainly want him.

Per Bleacher Report UK, the Argentinian has been in breathtaking form in Serie A this season:

BeIN Sports' Matteo Bonetti provided further context to his achievement:

GianlucaDiMarzio.com's David Amoyal believes he deserves immense credit for getting the best out of his Napoli team-mates:

Indeed, though he provided just two assists in the league this season, he created 51 chances, according to Squawka, so it's clear he contributed plenty of opportunities for his team-mates rather than simply finishing off the chances that were made for him.

BT Sport's James Horncastle believes Higuain has been the best No. 9 in European football this season—even better than Luis Suarez, who bagged 40 goals in La Liga. Here are some highlights that go a long way to backing up his claim:

Whichever player you prefer, Higuain has been among the continent's best, so if the Blues were to land him, he would undoubtedly command a starting berth even ahead of Costa.

Costa may welcome a return to Atletico after having had such a successful spell at the Vicente Calderon Stadium prior to joining Chelsea, though as Balague noted, his wages could be a sticking point.

Meanwhile, the Blues have been handed a break in their pursuit of Stuttgart defender Antonio Rudiger. According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (h/t Calciomercato, via Watson), Roma—where he has spent the season on loan—have decided not to keep Rudiger permanently, though the Blues still have to contend with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Bleacher Report UK's Jack Lusby believes it would be a strange decision from the Giallorossi not to keep him:

The 23-year-old developed into an important figure in Roma's back line over the course of the campaign, so it would indeed be inexplicable, but if Chelsea can snap him up, he could be a strong purchase for them as they seek to challenge for the title next season.
