Lacrosse Player Sends Game to Overtime with 80-Plus-Yard Hail Mary Shot
Until a game is officially over, don't give up. You never know what can happen.
Just look at this play if you need proof.
Down 14-12 to the Rochester Rattlers in the final seconds of Saturday's game, the Boston Cannons looked like they were about to drop to 2-2 on the season. However, Cannons defender Brodie Merrill—who was more than 80 yards away from the net—gave his team a chance by putting the ball on target.
It went in. And just like that, a game that appeared to be over was heading to overtime.
Here's how Merrill described the Hail Mary after the game, per Rachel Murphy of the Cannons' official website:
"We were fortunate enough to force a turnover late. Mitch Belisle did a great job of pressuring the ball, and then I just looked up at the clock to see that there were three seconds left. Mitch was about to throw it and I said "Mitch, Mitch, I’m going try to shoot it here." I whipped it as hard as I could. The way the lighting was, it went off into the dark and I saw the reaction from the guys.
"
Boston took advantage of its second chance, pulling out a 15-14 victory in overtime.
