David Ortiz Caps Big Day with Walk-Off Double in Win over Astros

Laura DeptaMay 14, 2016

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz had quite a day at Fenway Park on Saturday versus the Houston Astros.ย

The retiring slugger hit a third-inning solo home run, No. 513 for his career and good enough to move him past Eddieย Mathews and Ernie Banks for sole possession of No. 22 on the all-time list.ย

Later, Big Papi keptย theย game alive for the home team with a game-tying triple (yesย triple) in the bottom of the ninth.ย

Ever one for a dramatic finish, Papi capped off his spectacular day as only he can, with an 11th-inning walk-off double, the 600th two-base hit of his career. The Red Sox won the game, 6-5.ย

His teammates thanked him with an explosion of what appeared to be baby powder as he rolled into second base.ย

Ortiz didn't revel too much in the postgame celebrations, however. According to Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, the man had somewhere to be:

There was time for a Gatorade bath, however, much to the misfortune of one NESN reporter:

Baseball is going to miss you, Papi. ย
