Liverpool Transfer News: Mario Gotze Told to Leave, Latest Reds Rumours
Bayern Munich have reportedly advised playmaker Mario Gotze to leave the club if he wants first-team football, with Liverpool strongly linked with the Germany international.
According to Suddeutsche Zeitung (h/t Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror) the club’s next manager, Carlo Ancelotti, spoke to Gotze on the phone recently and informed him he will not be a key part of his plans for next season, suggesting “it may be best for him to leave Bayern this summer.”
As Richards reported, Liverpool have been touted as suitors, with manager Jurgen Klopp having worked with, and brought the best out of, Gotze previously.

Star-Studded World Cup Ad 🤩

It’s been a tough season for the former Borussia Dortmund man. But even with injuries limiting his appearances and a lot of cameos off the bench, there have still been memorable moments for the 23-year-old:
Looking at his predicament, a fresh start seems inevitable for the Germany star.
Since scoring the winning goal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, Gotze’s stock has fallen. It was a moment that should have seen him kick on and cement his spot in the Bayern side, although it’s never materialised.
Gotze arguably played the best football of his career in his teenage years at Dortmund, and there has been some tentative talk he could be on the way back to Westfalenstadion. However, as noted by Richards, the club’s supporters brandished a banner in April telling their former star to “p--s off.”

It could certainly pave the way for the Reds to land the Bayern man, and Klopp would surely love to link up with his former protege again.
As we can see here, courtesy of Squawka Football, Liverpool are playing an exciting style of attacking football under the German:
Gotze is a major talent too. When he’s been on the field and got minutes under his belt consistently, he’s shown his ability.
He can conjure moments of magic with the ball at his feet, ghost past opposition defenders and play crisp passes into dangerous positions; Gotze brings out the best in the attackers around him.

With Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho purring in the Liverpool attack, Gotze would add another intricate edge to their play. He’s also someone well versed in the unique way in which Klopp works.
Bleacher Report’s Jack Lusby thinks his influence could help push the Reds on to great things next season:
Whether it’s Liverpool, Dortmund or elsewhere, a change of scenery and a key role in the team are surely inevitable for Gotze. His time at Bayern seems to be coming to an end, and if Ancelotti is unlikely to promote him to a position of increased significance at the Allianz Arena, then he must go in search of one.
During his time as a manager, it’s been rare to see Klopp go after players who are already established, such as Gotze. But the coach will remember just how magnificent the teenage version of this exceptional player was.
If he could draw those skills from him again at Anfield, the Reds would be a force to be reckoned with in the final third in 2016-17.
