Luis Suarez Says Neymar, Lionel Messi Trying to Help Him Win Pichichi

Rob BlanchetteMay 11, 2016

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has said Neymar and Lionel Messi are trying to help him win the Pichichi Trophy as Spain's top goalscorer.

The controversial Uruguay international told ESPN Deportes' Ouique Wolff (h/t ESPN) his fellow Barca superstars want him to get the goals he needs to achieve the Pichichi.

"The entire team deserves the credit for my streak," Suarez said. "Now my teammates look for me because they know I am in the running. Leo [Messi] and Ney[mar] give me the penalty kicks. That shows that the team sees what I am capable of over these last few games and they want me to score."

Suarez's recent brace against Espanyol took him to 37 La Liga goals this campaign, and his assist keeps him tied with Lionel Messi at the top of the league, according to ESPN.

Here is a video of Suarez in stellar form this term as he looks to scoop the award:

Cristiano Ronaldo will chase the Barca player down to the final hurdle, with his two goals against Valencia moving the Portugal icon to 33 La Liga goals this season, per Supersport

Coach Zinedine Zidane told the club's website (h/t Supersport) he believes his striker could inadvertently snatch the award:

"Knowing him, he'll keep fighting until the end," said Zidane on Monday. "Not for the Pichichi (leading scorers' trophy), but because he wants to score in every game, to score more and more, as always, it's the team that reaps the benefits of this."

WhoScored.com highlighted the former Liverpool striker's remarkable form this year:

Suarez has proved many wrong after his ban for biting at the World Cup in Brazil, often thought to not have the temperament to play at the highest level when the Blaugrana wanted him.

However, forming the MSN trinity with Messi and Neymar has given world football one of the greatest trios of all time, and no detractor can begrudge Suarez the Pichichi if he achieves the standard in the final game.

Overall, it has been a traumatic and stressful season for Barcelona as they tasted tangible defeat for the first time in a year.

However, La Liga is still within their clutches, and the Pichichi would be the cherry on the cake if Barca regain the Primera Division crown.
