Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo Rumours

Rob BlanchetteMay 11, 2016

Manchester United will "renew" their interest in Barcelona attacker Neymar if they finish in the top four of the Premier League. But their chances of signing Cristiano Ronaldo have taken a blow, after reports claimed the player's agent has "reached a verbal agreement" for the Portugal icon to join Paris Saint-Germain if he decides to leave Real Madrid.

French newspaper L'Equipe (h/t James Whaling of the Mirror) have reported Brazil attacker Neymar will be subject of a bid by the Red Devils, but only if they can claim an unlikely UEFA Champions League berth against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Neymar's release clause is set for a €30 million (£23.6 million) increase to €220 million (£173 million) if he signs a new contract at the Camp Nou, forcing United to pay more than twice the current world transfer record to sign the Brazil international (h/t Football Espana).

Neymar's father has previously claimed the Red Devils made an offer for his son in recent times. Speaking with COPE in February (h/t George Ankers of Goal), Neymar Sr. revealed the Red Devils had made a big money bid for his son, with Catalunya Radio (h/t Sport) claiming he’d previously stated there had been a “mega offer” for the Barca star.

“Manchester United is the side that offered €190 million for Neymar,” he told COPE. “He has still two years left on his contract but you all [the media] can be calm as my son is so happy here.”

Here is a video displaying what United would get for their money:

Spanish football journalist Rafael Hernandez recently claimed Neymar's "partying" is a cause for concern with the Brazilian Football Confederation, and the forward should also take his share of the blame for Barcelona's poor form in recent weeks as they crashed out of Europe:

French publication Le Parisien (h/t the Mirror's Ed Malyon) reported super agent Jorge Mendes has reached an agreement in principle with PSG for the transfer of Ronaldo if he decides to quit life in Spain.

However, with Real in the Champions League final once more, and the player scoring 16 goals in Europe as Los Blancos progressed—according to WhoScored.com—it is likely president Florentino Perez would be a very reluctant seller.

United fans have had to endure a toxic season under manager Louis van Gaal this term and will be hoping the owners add a superstar to their squad in due course.

As things stand, United are way off competing for the Premier League title, as the first-team flatter to deceive on a regular basis.

The addition of Neymar would take United back to the front of the queue, but LvG's record in the transfer market does not suggest he will add the name that supporters crave anytime soon.
