Barcelona Transfer News: Denis Suarez Deal Reported, Latest Rumours

Matt JonesMay 11, 2016

Barcelona will reportedly bring Denis Suarez back to the club from Villarreal at the end of the season.

That’s according to Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport, who has reported the La Liga leaders have struck a deal to re-sign their former midfielder after his brilliant campaign with the Yellow Submarine. It’s said the Catalan giants will have to part with only €3.25 million to secure the services of the playmaker due to a buy-back clause in his contract.

“The club's sporting director Robert Fernandez used him as an example for the other players Barca have on loan and buy-back options around Europe at different clubs,” added Miguelsanz. “They wanted to bring him back in January, but it was not possible as Villarreal would not let him leave.”

It’s been a campaign to remember for Villarreal, having secured a spot in the top four and made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. The intricate skills of Suarez have been key to their success; here is a look at some of the best moments from his campaign so far:

Indeed, Marcelino has deployed the 22-year-old in one of the wide positions in 2015-16, and while he’s at his best in a central berth, he’s been given a specific tactical role in the Villarreal setup.

Typically on the left, Suarez floats into spaces between the lines, seeking to avoid the attention of opposition defensive midfielders. When he gets the ball at his feet, the former Barca man comes alive, often dropping a shoulder and ghosting past his marker or threading passes into the feet of his team-mates in dangerous areas.

In Villarreal’s Europa League run, he has shown his creative talents to great effect. As noted by OptaJose, his impact in the attacking third is almost unprecedented in the competition:

The challenge for the player heading back to Barcelona will be getting a spot in the side. After all, while technical, intricate attackers are coveted by most sides on the continent, there are plenty at the Camp Nou.

Whether he’s vying for a spot in the centre of the field with the likes of Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic or Rafinha or further forward with Arda Turan, Neymar and even Lionel Messi, getting in the starting XI is going to be extremely difficult for the young man.

As we can see here courtesy of Squawka Football, Barca’s attacking setup is already functioning rather well already:

One of the main issues for manager Luis Enrique this term is not having enough depth to rotate key men, though, something that manifested when Barcelona looked jaded and suffered a poor run of form lately. It’s a long season, and if Suarez is in the squad, there will come a point where he gets the chance to impress.

Of course, he’s still young and still developing, but this season has shown just how much a regular run of games can expedite progression. A return to Barcelona will be a huge opportunity for this talented starlet, although it’d be a huge shame if long runs on the bench upset the continuity he’s been afforded at Villarreal.
