Real Madrid Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo, PSG Agreement Amid Neymar Rumours

Rory MarsdenMay 11, 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly "prioritise a switch" to French champions Paris Saint-Germain if he decides to leave Real Madrid.

According to Le Parisien (via Sky Sports), the Portuguese superstar's agent, Jorge Mendes, has reached a "verbal agreement with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi," which would see Ronaldo move to the Parc des Princes should he depart the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

However, despite PSG having been linked with the 31-year-old forward for some time, it "looks increasingly unlikely" that Ronaldo will leave Real any time soon as he is reportedly set to extend his current contract with Los Blancos—which expires in 2018—by "two or three years," per Le Parisien (via Sky Sports).

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague relayed an AS article that also indicated Mendes has reached an agreement with PSG that could see the French club sign Ronaldo if they offer Real enough money:

Meanwhile, AS' own front page on Wednesday announced that PSG have in no way given up hope of signing the former Manchester United man:

Despite his continuing immense form, rumours have abounded during the last year that Ronaldo could be on his way out of Real this summer.

A previous Sport piece reported that club president Florentino Perez is eager to move on the three-time Ballon d'Or winner in order to make way for the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Alvaro Morata.

However, Ronaldo remains an invaluable part of the Real squad and is still performing at the highest level despite being in his 30s.

He has netted 33 times in La Liga in 2015-16, and Los Blancos are still in with a chance of pinching the title from Barcelona, per Bleacher Report's Dean Jones:

Per WhoScored.com, he has 16 goals in 11 UEFA Champions League matches, which have helped propel his side to the final.

The fact of the matter is that Ronaldo could finish the season having been the key man in a Liga and Champions League-winning side.

But PSG will not give up, and they have the money to at least tempt Real to consider selling the winger—a bid worth more than the £80 million Los Blancos paid for Ronaldo in 2009 would surely be worth a discussion from the Madrid hierarchy.

And the Paris outfit have now reportedly conceded that they will not be able to sign Barca's Neymar as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's replacement in the summer, leaving Ronaldo as their prime target, per L'Equipe (via Sport).

Seemingly they have made the first step in signing the Portugal captain, but given Real's current successes it seems unlikely PSG will be able to snap him up this summer, and they may have to wait for another year before they get their man.
