Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Ousmane Dembele, Jorginho Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenMay 10, 2016

Rennes starlet Ousmane Dembele has decided where he’ll play his football next year. A host of interested clubs, including Arsenal, will be happy to hear he has turned down a move to Premier League champions Leicester City. Meanwhile, Joao Santos, the representative of Napoli star Jorginho, has revealed that several clubs are chasing the midfielder.

As reported by Ouest-France (h/t Oliver Todd of MailOnline), Dembele is reportedly being tracked by just about every major Premier League club, including Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

French Rennes' forward Ousmane Dembele receives the Ligue 1 2015-2016 young player of the year award during the 25th professionnal football players national union's (Union Nationale des Footballeurs professionnels, UNFP) trophies cemenony in Paris on May

Leicester are also interested, but the 18-year-old has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join the Foxes after manager Claudio Ranieri called the youngster, according to the Quest-France source: "I had Claudio Ranieri on the phone. I was surprised to hear from him, I told him that I will not go to Leicester. I know where I am going.”

The Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year is expected to leave his current club, and in an interview with Ouest France (h/t French football writer Mohammed Ali), he hinted at a departure as well:

Dembele only made his full Ligue 1 debut in November of last year, but he immediately found the net against Bordeaux and has impressed ever since. Per WhoScored.com, he scored 12 goals in 21 Ligue 1 starts this season.

The electric winger looks like a future star, and interest in his services isn’t limited to the Premier League. Per Sport, he’s been heavily linked with Borussia DortmundAtletico Madrid and Barcelona are also interested in the youngster.

Here’s a look at France’s latest starlet:

Dembele is regarded as an even better prospect than Manchester United star Anthony Martial was during his time with AS Monaco, and as Rennes aren’t a major club in France, he likely won’t be nearly as expensive as his compatriot.

But with so many interested clubs, landing Dembele won’t be easy. The youngster is expected to join Dortmund, and his revelation he’s already made his decision means it might be too late for the likes of Arsenal to change his mind.

Meanwhile, Santos has told Radio Crc (h/t Daily ExpressCharlie Phillippe) that his client is in demand, and he believes some clubs have already reached out to the Partenopei:

"

Jorginho has done well, playing in a team which has done well, so we have to understand what Napoli think of his future. Unfortunately that’s modern football, you can renew and then leave two months later.

Given the season he’s had, it’s normal that some clubs are interested in Jorginho, and I think some talk has also reached Napoli. If he were to be sold it would be to make a profit for the club.

"

The 24-year-old has been a key contributor in Napoli’s midfield, and after signing a new deal in January, transfer speculation mostly died down.

His agent hasn’t stopped talking, however, and he told Radio Crc (h/t Samuel Stevens of the Independent) that Arsenal and Real Madrid were watching Jorginho in March.

Here’s a look at some of the midfielder’s highlights:

The Italy international is a superb distributor and solid defender who has found a perfect home in Napoli. The team relies heavily on his ability as a deep-lying playmaker and are not expected to entertain offers this summer.

That won’t stop Santos from drumming up interest in his client, however, especially with the summer transfer window right around the corner.
