Curtis Axel and 4 WWE Stars Who Could Benefit from Move to NXT

Aaron BowerMay 9, 2016

With so much fresh talent coming up to WWE's main roster from NXT, it should be the catalyst for some stars to go the other way.

NXT is no longer WWE's feeder brand. It is a brand that can hold its own within the company's landscape, meaning some main roster wrestlers could go there to give their careers a huge lift.

We've seen recently with Emma's time on NXT how a star can refocus, adjust and come back to the main roster stronger. She is now back on Raw and SmackDown with a new attitude and mentality.

The lower end of WWE's main roster is filled with stars who would do well to take a step sideward and move to NXT for a few months. Here are the best options.

Fandango

1 of 5

WWE's dancing maverick has seen his stock fall dramatically over the last couple of years.

It was only a short period of time ago when he was beating Chris Jericho at WrestleMania. But a lack of clarity with his booking and a gimmick that hasn't succeeded in the long term has left him in a state of limbo.

So why not consider moving Fandango down to NXT for a few months?

Regular exposure on TV, albeit just once a week at Full Sail University, could be what he needs. In a similar way to Emma, he could come back to the main roster refreshed and with a meaner attitude, which could set him up for something better than what he's experiencing now.

Tyler Breeze

When Prince Pretty made the switch to the main roster, there was understandably a real buzz about his future.

He was a big hit in NXT, and when the time came for him to make the step up to Raw and SmackDown, it seemed inevitable he would go over.

But it hasn't worked out. Breeze is always on the wrong end of results, and a lack of consistent appearances on TV has seen him go stale.

Maybe returning to the brand where he enjoyed such overwhelming success could be what he needs.

Naomi

3 of 5

With Charlotte dominating the women's division and the likes of Natalya and Sasha Banks breathing down her neck, some of WWE's female stars are beginning to get lost in the shuffle.

Take Naomi, for example. When the Divas Revolution got underway last year, Naomi heading up Team B.A.D. felt like a move that could have given her a real lift.

But when that storyline quickly faded and the NXT contingent began to break out in its own right, Naomi's stock fell.

Moving her to NXT and allowing her to take on the female wrestlers at Full Sail University would be a smart move, as it feels like she still has a lot to give to the company going forward.

Curtis Axel

4 of 5

A former tag team champion and a holder of the WWE Intercontinental Championship once upon a time, Curtis Axel's track record is far more impressive than some on the main roster.

But his pairing with Paul Heyman didn't take off, and that did Axel a huge amount of damage in the long run.

He was recently drafted into The Social Outcasts, but it still feels like Axel has the potential to break out in his own right in the months and years to come.

He's a guy who could move to NXT and be a genuine contender for the NXT Championship if booked correctly. That would give his career a major boost and would allow Axel to come back to the main roster with a new edge.

Neville

5 of 5

Until Finn Balor recently overtook him as the longest-reigning NXT champion, Neville had a special place in the brand's history.

That's why when WWE moved him to the main roster, hopes were high he would be a huge hit.

After all, he had a gimmick that was simple and effective: He has supreme in-ring ability, and he has everything fans seem to enjoy about a competitor.

But his booking has been shoddy, he's been given little chance to shine in a real rivalry and his main roster career has lost its edge.

So move him back to NXT, have him go after the biggest prize on the brand once again and let his career be given the chance to shine.
