Stephen Curry Injury Update: Warriors PG to Return for Game 4 vs. Trail Blazers

Matt FitzgeraldMay 9, 2016

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry got a double dose of good news Monday.

First, ESPN's Marc Stein reported Curry would win the NBA MVP Award for the second year in a row, then the Warriors revealed Curry was active for Monday's Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The NBA's Vine account provide footage of Curry shooting before the game:

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated reported that "Warriors coach Steve Kerr says Curry has no time restriction in his likely return and it's more about how he feels conditioning wise."

Curry sprained his right MCL in the Warriors' opening-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets and has been on the bench for all of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Though Golden State won its first two games against the Trail Blazers without Curry, it was a different story in Game 3 on Saturday. Homestanding Portland got a Curry-esque performance from Damian Lillard, who poured in eight three-pointers and 40 points in a 120-108 victory.

If the Warriors are going to repeat as NBA champions, it will become more imperative for Curry to be on the court the deeper they go in the postseason. Should Golden State win Game 4 on the road, it would have a 3-1 series lead with a potential closeout contest at Oracle Arena on tap for Wednesday. In that case, the Dubs could rest Curry for Game 5 with the worst-case scenario a Game 7 back home.

Though Curry and Golden State had an epic regular season, setting a league record with 73 victories, the team won't be remembered as fondly if it doesn't win the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
