Hungry For More Success

rahul senSep 29, 2009

Manchester United have started their hunt for an unprecedented fourth consecutive EPL title. Here, they are now at the top of the league table. After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez many expressed their doubt over United's possibility to win the league this year again.

But, after beating three possible title contender, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City, Red Devils have shown that it'll be foolish to write them off.

Now it seems, the shock defeat against Burnley helped them to regroup and be more ruthless in their approach. Last year was the worst for United in terms of scoring goals, ever since the Premier League started.

Ferguson was well aware of the fact. He mentioned in the press that he wants more goals from his players. Rooney has already taken the challenge and is in good form.

Berbatov, what to say about this guy? He is pure class. Touch, passing, vision, skill, he has got everything. But there is still some doubt about his goal scoring ability.

The goal against Manchester City has shut the mouth of many critics. Yes, I'm talking about Michael Owen. He has not played much so far. Sir Alex is giving him time to gel with the rest of the teams. His experience will come handy for United.

Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, the evergreen duo of United. At this age also the hunger they have is simply amazing. SAF is using them cleverly. He knows at this stage of their career they can't play back to back matches in midweek and at the weekend.

It is also a concern that United still have to rely on Giggs and Scholes to win hard fought battles. It was Giggs who won the match for United against Stoke City. Scholes is in such a good form that he is keeping Carrick out of starting eleven. I think young players like Nani and Anderson should learn from them. This is their third season at United.

They need to step up their game now. For instance, Darren Fletcher, how he has turned himself from a substitute to a first team player. He has done a very good job to fill the gap left by injured Owen Hargreaves.

Foster, got similar opportunity when Van der Sar broke his finger and went out for several months. But the promising goalkeeper put himself under pressure after making some blunders. During this stint he never looked calm or relaxed. He should know opportunity like this won't come often. It's all about utilizing opportunities you get.

Defense have been the strength of this United squad.

Vidic and Ferdinand's partnership probably the best in the league. Whereas Evra looks solid in his position. He is going for attack more often than before. Boy, he knows how to balance his work. O'shea is doing decent job as right back, since Rafael and Brown both are injured. Brown has recovered. I guess he will get back his form soon.

Basically United have really handled Ronaldo's departure quite well so far. More the season will progress, the picture will get more clear.
