Kentucky Derby Prize Money
1st Place: $1.24 million
2nd Place: $400,000
3rd Place: $200,000
4th Place: $100,000
5th Place: $60,000
When it comes to money already earned, race favorite Nyquist has far outearned any of the other horses in the field.
With seven wins in seven career races, Nyquist has earned over $3.3 million in just two years of competition. It's about double the earnings of the race's second-favorite horse, Exaggerator, at $1.67 million.
He's also been more successful than last year's Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah, who was 4-1 in five starts before the Kentucky Derby.
If that suggests anything, then Nyquist is poised to make a serious run at becoming the 13th horse to ever win the Triple Crown.
