Kentucky Derby Schedule 2016: Race Start Time, TV Coverage and Live Stream Info

A little over a year after American Pharoah started his run to the Triple Crown at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, another horse will look to do the same at the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Only once have two horses won the Triple Crown in back-to-back years. Affirmed made history in 1978, following in Seattle Slew's footsteps in 1977.

However, horse racing has changed quite a bit since then, and there are many reasons the sport went without a Triple Crown winner for nearly four decades. All eyes will be on Louisville, though, to see if one horse can buck the odds and make another run at greatness.

Nyquist began the week as the odds-on favorite to win this year's Derby, and his chances might have actually improved following the reveal of the race's post positions. Here's a look at the full lineup with the odds for each horse, per Odds Shark:

1Trojan Nation66-1
2Suddenbreakingnews20-1
3Creator12-1
4Mo Tom22-1
5Gun Runner9-1
6My Man Sam20-1

18Majesto33-1
19Brody's Cause14-1
20Danzing Candy20-1

Starting in the 13th post position will offer Nyquist a good level of comfort. He's far enough away from the rail that jockey Mario Gutierrez shouldn't get trapped inside, yet he's not so far off the rail that he'll need to expend a lot of energy simply to get over with the rest of the pack.

"No matter if we drew the one or the 20, the thought is we were going to leave there with the intent of being forwardly placed and just play it by ear," said trainer Doug O'Neill, per the Associated Press' Beth Harris (via the Detroit News). "More than anything, I'm so happy with the way he's training, the way he's acting. He's thriving on all the positive attention."

Nyquist carries massive expectations in Louisville for good reason. He has won each of his seven competitive races to date, including head-to-head victories over Majesto, Mohaymen and Exaggerator. His dominant performance at the Florida Derby was particularly impressive:

As good as Nyquist is, though, he'll have some stiff competition as he looks to win the Run for the Roses. One look at the Derby odds illustrates how deep this year's field is.

Even Mohaymen, who was thoroughly outclassed at the Florida Derby, could potentially reign supreme at Churchill Downs. He had won his previous five races before falling well short at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Similarly, some might be overlooking Exaggerator after he was second to Nyquist at the San Vicente Stakes and third behind Danzing Candy and Mor Spirit at the San Felipe Stakes.

According to Odds Shark, though, five Derby winners since 1997 have made the trip to Santa Anita Park before packing up and traveling to Churchill Downs, which could be good news for Exaggerator. The colt won in dominant fashion at a muddy Santa Anita Derby in April:

Daily Racing Form's Nicole Russo was impressed by Exaggerator when watching him during his pre-Derby prep this week:

Rarely does the Kentucky Derby fail to deliver an enthralling spectacle. From looking at the race-day attire of those in attendance to watching some of the best horses in the world face off, fans will have no shortage of entertainment Saturday.
