Liverpool Transfer News: Piotr Zielinski Bid Made, Latest Reds Rumours

Liverpool have reportedly bid just short of £12 million in an attempt to sign Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport's Nicolo Schira (via Metro's Tom Olver), the 21-year-old Udinese player—currently on loan at Empoli—has already "held discussions with [Liverpool manager] Jurgen Klopp" and the Reds have now made an offer for him: 

Klopp is seemingly planning a major squad overhaul during the summer as he looks to prepare Liverpool for a Premier League title challenge next season.

The German manager has already sealed the signing of Schalke centre-back Joel Matip and is now clearly looking to bolster his central-midfield ranks.

The Reds could do with more depth in the middle of the park having been left short of late after injuries to Emre Can and Jordan Henderson, and Zielinski could be an exciting addition to the Liverpool squad.

The young Poland international is excellent at dictating play from central midfield, has terrific distribution skills and can also run at defenders—see some highlights of his 2015-16 campaign below:

In Serie A this season he has netted four goals and provided four assists for Empoli, and he could excel sitting behind Philippe Coutinho in Klopp's setup, per WhoScored.com.

Zielinski is far from the finished product yet, but Klopp has a history of working well in advancing young players.

In a squad already boasting the likes of Coutinho, Can and Roberto Firmino, Zielinski would be another impressive arrival to the core group of young stars set to be the basis of Klopp's squad over the next few years.

Elsewhere, newly crowned Premier League champions Leicester City are reportedly set to make a move for Liverpool flop Christian Benteke in the summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Joe Short in the Express), Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri is looking to bolster his attacking line and is eyeing a "cut-price deal" for striker Benteke following a poor debut season for the Belgian at Anfield after his £32.5 million move from Villa.

The 25-year-old just does not seem to fit into Klopp's distinctive tactical style, but he is still an accomplished goalscorer and could excel in the Leicester side where his physicality could be put to better use.
