French Tennis Federation Investigated for Alleged Resale of French Open Tickets
The French Tennis Federation is being investigated by the country's financial prosecutors' office for allegedly reselling French Open tickets.ย
Prosecutors seized documents in searches that could connect the federation to "an illicit system of reselling tickets," per a Tuesday report by the Associated Press.
This year's tournament begins May 16.
Prosecutors are also looking into a contract related to the renovation of Roland Garros, the venue for the French Open, per the report.
According to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com),ย plans to add a retractable roof and a new 5,000-seat court by 2019 have been spurned by environmental groups and residents, who supported a new study of the land's usage approved by the Paris city council in March 2015.
The president of the federation, Jean Gachassin, had his house searched as part of the investigation. Travel agencyย Havas Voyages La Depeche, whichย was reportedly sold French Open tickets for a considerable profit in February, according to French newspaperย Le Canard Enchaine (via the AP), was also searched.ย
Per the AP report, the federation is said to be fully cooperating with investigators.
