Ukrainian wrestler Vyacheslav Oliynyk, who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, was arrested in Kiev, Ukraine, in late April after he was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving and proceeded to fight police officers.

Jake Polden of MailOnline reported on the altercation that ensued when police pulled Oliynyk over while he was out celebrating his 50th birthday.

It took seven police officers to apprehend Oliynyk after he showed hostility toward two initial officers.

One of the officers used pepper spray on Oliynyk, while another hit him in the face with a baton. Even when the former Olympian was on the pavement and pinned down, he continued to try to squirm free and further bloodied his face.

Oliynyk later commented on the incident, per the MailOnline report:

"

I admit I was partially guilty; I can't tell you the whole thing. I'm partly guilty because I did not stop, and I was ignoring the police. But I am not a criminal. As far as I can see, there will be a court hearing, and they will punish me somehow because they always do. However, the fact that police let me go home on the same day shows I didn't do anything that bad.

"

According to reports, the Olympic champion stopped resisting because his son was crying in the car, Polden said.
