Anthony Dirrell vs. Caleb Truax: Winner, Recap and Reaction

Danny WebsterApr 29, 2016

It took Anthony Dirrell just over one minute and 30 seconds to defeat Caleb Truax by TKO in Round 1 on Friday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Dirrell connected with a swift right hand that rocked Truax, sending him to the ropes. Shortly after, Dirrell connected with a fury of punches that knocked Truax down. The referee allowed the fight to continue, until another fury from Dirrell sent Truax down again, thus ending the fight.

The former WBC super middleweight champion took to Twitter afterward to react to his 29th win:

After losing his title to Badou Jack last year, his first career loss, Dirrell has regained his momentum by winning back-to-back fights. This was his first fight since September, when Dirrell defeated Marco Antonio Rubio by unanimous decision.

It's his 12th win by TKO or knockout in his last 17 fights, which was a refreshing sight for Bad Left Hook:

Even though it was a quick fight, the outcome didn't sway the fact Truax is a stand-up guy, as mentioned by Write on the Button:

For Truax, his slide continues. He's lost two of his last three fights, with both of them coming by way of TKO.

ESPN.com's Nigel Collins knows how much of a mismatch it was for Truax but hopes that the end result is a decent payday:

Before dropping two out of three, Truax was on a roll by winning seven of his last eight fights. He needs to regroup before he's in the conversation of being a No. 1 contender anytime soon.

Dirrell has bounced back nicely since that loss to Jack. The time might come soon for a rematch, considering the last fight was not a dominant win by any stretch. A rematch between these two should come soon. With how Dirrell has fought the last two fights, this rematch could be a different result.
