Miami Dolphins Mock Draft and Big Board: Updated Day 3 Predictions

Thomas GaliciaApr 29, 2016

It's been a crazy two days at the NFL draft for the Miami Dolphins.

Now with just one day left to go, the Dolphins will be on the board only three more times.

It would've been five, however, the Dolphins traded their fourth and sixth-rounders in two separate moves up on Friday.

What should the Dolphins do with their remaining three picks? We'll take a look in our final mock draft of 2016 as we review Miami's final three picks.

Miami Dolphins Picks

1 of 5

The Dolphins started the draft with eight picks in seven rounds to fill their various needs.

The strategy they went with was to fill their biggest needs. They deviated from the plan once Laremy Tunsil slipped to them, but the second and third rounds were all about filling said needs, even if it meant making deals.

Miami traded up twice on Friday, dealing a fourth-rounder to Baltimore to move up in the second round to acquire Xavien Howard, then trading back into the third round by sending Minnesota its sixth-rounder along with a third and a fourth-rounder for next season. The team then used that pick to acquire Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo.

The draft is no longer about needs, but rather who are the best players available when Miami is on the clock.

Big Board

2 of 5

I'm changing up my big board and instead of focusing on Miami's needs (something it's done a good job of even though two of the selections have been reaches), I'm just going to post my top-100 players remaining.

Not all of these players will be drafted, and some should've been chosen on day two, but it's a list that Miami should consider come Saturday with their remaining three draft picks.

Round 5, Pick 147: Christian Westerman, G, Arizona State

3 of 5

I'm shocked that Arizona State guard Christian Westerman lasted into the third day of the draft.

He's one of the better guards in the draft and has the potential to be a top-level starter in the league.

Will he be available in the fifth round when Miami is on the clock? I'm guessing he will, and the Dolphins should pounce on the athletic, powerful and technically sound guard.

Draft Westerman, and the Dolphins offensive line is set for at least the next five years. While only an injury will give him playing time in 2016, he'll be ready to start at left guard (alongside Laremy Tunsil) in 2017.

Round 7, Pick 227: Deon Bush, S, Miami (Fla)

4 of 5

One player has remained consistent throughout my mock drafts: Deon Bush would fit on the Miami Dolphins.

Bush would work well in the secondary with Reshad Jones as the two would form one of the fastest and hardest-hitting safety duos in the league.

It would also be great to keep Bush at home.

There is a possibility that Bush won't be available this deep in the draft as there has been a massive run on secondary players throughout the draft, and there's no reason to think that will end any time soon.

Round 7, Pick 231: Terrance Smith, Florida State

5 of 5

A position ignored in this draft by the Dolphins: linebacker.

There's a good reason behind that as the Dolphins have good depth at the position.

Miami will add more depth to linebacker with the addition of Florida State's Terrance Smith.

Smith would be better suited as an outside linebacker for the Dolphins' 4-3 base defense, where his length and athleticism would allow him to be a playmaker.

Like Zach Vigil (picked in the fifth round last year), Smith would have to prove himself on special teams first, but his athleticism and speed should allow him to do well. He'll have to cut down on his missed tackles, but he's someone you can safely put in coverage on most tight ends that will be able to keep them under wraps.
