Jalen Ramsey to Jaguars: Twitter Reacts as CB Is Selected in 2016 NFL Draft
The Jacksonville Jaguars pounced on Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey with the fifth pick in the 2016 NFL draft Thursday night after the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys both passed on the versatile defensive back, and there was near-universal praise for the selection on Twitter.
Sports Illustrated's Doug Farrar was among those who applauded the move right off the bat, as he compared Ramsey to a future Hall of Famer:
ESPN's Danny Kanell also approved of the pick for a Jaguars team that finished last season ranked 29th in opponents' average passing yards:
Here's the best of the rest:
"Who cares if Ramsey is a corner or a safety? 6'1'', 209 pounds who runs a 4.41 40, has 41.5'' vertical, and plays with an edge.
— SI NFL (@si_nfl) April 29, 2016"
"Sup, @jalenramsey fireball?
— Blake Bortles (@BBortles5) April 29, 2016"
For a team that was already on the rise, the Jaguars appeared to nail their pick at No. 5 overall.
Not only did they need to add a dynamic playmaker in the defensive backfield, but Ramsey is a versatile prospect who can operate as an outside corner, slot corner, hard-hitting center fielder or physically imposing run-stopper at the line of scrimmage.
With the franchise's stock trending in a positive direction, Ramsey has the potential to represent a home run selection for one of the AFC's trendiest clubs.
