Penguins vs. Capitals: Game 1 Live Score, Highlights for 2016 NHL Playoffs
The Washington Capitals jumped out to an early lead in their second-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins thanks to a hat trick from T.J. Oshie that gave Washington a 4-3 overtime win in Game 1.
The game was fast-paced, physical and evenly played, with both teams' lead never stretching beyond one goal. The Capitals took a first-period lead on a goal by Andre Burakovksy, then the Penguins rebounded in the second with scoring plays 57 seconds apart by Ben Lovejoy and Evgeni Malkin before Oshie's first of the night knotted the game back at two heading into the second intermission.

In the third, Oshie exchanged goals with Pittsburgh's Nick Bonino, forcing overtime and setting up Oshie's hat-trick game-winner.
Going into the game, the focus was on longtime rivals Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, but the two superstars played secondary roles on Thursday. Ovechkin logged just one assist but was a plus-three and led the Capitals with seven hits, while Crosby had seven shot attempts and a 68 percent success rate in the faceoff circle, but recorded a minus-three on the night.
Braden Holtby made 42 saves on the night for Washington while Pittsburgh's rookie goaltender Matt Murray took his first playoff loss after stopping 31 of 35 shots on goal.
If Game 1 is any indication, this series is going to be outstanding. Game 2 goes Saturday at 5 p.m. from Washington.
