Wright Stuns Taylor on Night 13
Defeat in the Premier League is a flavour Taylor rarely tastes on a regular basis, but an inspired display by the eccentric Wright saw the Scotsman defeat the icon from Stoke-on-Trent.
Wright took the opening leg with a double-10 finish, but Taylor immediately struck back to level the scores.
However, a 10-dart finish by the Power showed his form and intent, though Wright remained unfazed as the match progressed.
Snakebite pushed the score to 4-3 in his favour and did not look back, winning three legs in a row to take a 7-4 victory.
PDC Darts highlighted the achievement for Snakebite as he closed out the win:
Wright was back on the oche at the end of the night, featuring in a double-header against Anderson, and the pair played out a scintillating 6-6 draw to share the points.
Anderson had defeated Van Barneveld earlier on Thursday, slaying the former world champion 7-5 when it looked as though he might fall to the Netherlands master.
After the match, 3 Dart Analyst provided further insight into the world champion's performance level:
Superstar Van Gerwen destroyed Wade as he produced his best form, defeating his opponent in a 7-1 romp.
The Dutchman raced to 4-0 in no time at all, and Wade couldn't catch his breath in an emphatic display of menacing darts.
Mighty Mike took his place at the top of the league after his victory, averaging 108.33 with every visit, per PDC.tv.
Lewis maintained his chances of a play-off berth after beating Thornton 7-2 in Birmingham. After the match, 3 Dart Analyst gave a full breakdown of the stats:
The defeat will be a shock to the system for Taylor, but the win and draw on Thursday were vital for Snakebite as he looks to make it to the play-offs in London on May 19.
However, Van Gerwen's form will have the contenders supremely worried.
The Dutchman appears to be peaking at the correct time, and he will be impossible to stop if he remains at the level he is producing.
