Bill Simmons' HBO Talk Show 'Any Given Wednesday' to Premiere June 22

HBO announced Tuesday that Bill Simmons' weekly show, Any Given Wednesday, will debut June 22.

According to Michael O'Connell of HollywoodReporter.com, the first season will be 20 episodes in length, and it will air weekly on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET.

Per O'Connell, Simmons released a statement regarding the show: "I'm excited about the show, I'm excited about the title and I'm really, really excited to drop my first F-bomb on TV. We are going to figure out nudity down the road, as long as it's tasteful."

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo also commented on the upcoming sports and pop culture show, according to O'Connell:

"

Bill Simmons represents a unique and distinct voice with a proven track record of challenging the norm and igniting debate and discussion on a wide range of topics. We are excited about the concept Bill and his team have developed for this show, which takes advantage of Bill's intelligence, talent and insights.

"

It was previously announced in February that Simmons was launching a website called The Ringer after departing ESPN and relinquishing control of Grantland, which was subsequently shut down.

Simmons contributed across multiple mediums during his time with ESPN, including TV's the Grantland Basketball Hour.

He will look to build and expand upon that with HBO, although he figures to have far more freedom, since the network is a pay television service.

Simmons rarely shied away from controversy at ESPN, including taking shots at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and the opinionated Massachusetts native now officially has a platform from which to speak his mind.
