2016 NFL Draft Odds: Goff, Wentz Set to Be Selected by Rams, Eagles on Thursday?

The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles trading up for the top two picks in this week’s NFL draft have made it a virtual lock that both teams will select players they hope will become franchise quarterbacks.

The Rams have already made it clear they will take whoever they believe to be the best signal-caller available, whether it be California’s Jared Goff or North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz. Goff is a strong -850 favorite (bet $850 to win $100) to be the No. 1 overall pick at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

If Goff goes to the Rams, then Wentz will likely go second to the Eagles, who have former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford under contract along with Chase Daniel.

Bradford requested a trade Monday, knowing his current team will probably go that route, with the Denver Broncos a possibility if Philadelphia can lower its asking price, per NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal.

Wentz has +500 odds (bet $100 to win $500) to go No. 1 to Los Angeles, while any other player is a long shot at +5,000.

After Goff and Wentz, things will get interesting with regard to skill-position players, such as running backs and wide receivers, in addition to other quarterbacks.

Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch could be the third player at his position selected in the first round, which is expected to happen based on overwhelming -1,200 odds that over 2.5 quarterbacks will be taken in the first round.

A wager on under 2.5 quarterbacks being picked in the first round is worth +650, but you would have to hope Lynch gets passed over until at least the second day of the NFL draft in order to cash that one.

Running backs are not what they used to be in the NFL, although Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott is trying hard to change teams’ minds heading into the draft. Elliott is viewed by many as the best prospect at his position since Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007.

However, Elliott looks to be the only running back who will be picked in the first round, with Alabama’s Derrick Henry another option. Henry beat out Elliott for the Heisman Trophy but had only one strong season. The odds that over 1.5 running backs will be taken in the first round are set at +260, while the under is favored at -350.

It is also difficult to say how many wide receivers will be selected in the first round, with under 3.5 favored at -140. Ole Miss’ Laquon Treadwell, Notre Dame’s Will Fuller, Ohio State’s Michael Thomas, TCU’s Josh Doctson and Baylor’s Corey Coleman are all possibilities, but at least a couple of them should last until the second round. That is why betting on over 3.5 wide receivers is a slightly more risky proposition at +110.
