NFL Quick Hits (Sept. 29)

Kevin RobertsSep 29, 2009

(Marshawn Lynch is back, but what is his role?)

Dwight Freeney Out Two to Three Weeks for Colts

Freeney hurt his quad in Sunday night's win over the Cardinals and will almost surely miss the next two games, but he should make it back for week seven after Indianapolis' bye.

This puts added pressure on Robert Mathis, as the Colts had already been dealing with a slew of defensive injuries.

Julius Jones and Chris Johnson, who the Colts face in the next two weeks, could be monster starts in weeks four and five, while you may want to keep away from the Colts defense until they are at full health again.

Buffalo to Have Lynch and Jackson Split Carries

Not really a surprise here.

Fred Jackson is too good now to sit, while Marshawn Lynch is supposedly their "franchise" back.

Both players still hold great flex value and could put up solid RB2 numbers going forward. The way Trent Edwards and the passing offense have looked lately, the Bills should be leaning heavily on both backs going forward.

Cowboys' Felix Jones to Miss Two Weeks

So much for all that depth at running back.

The Cowboys opened the season with arguably the deepest backfield in the league but now head into week four with only Tashard Choice at 100 percent.

This may make the Cowboys rush Marion Barber back, while Choice's value will see a solid rise.

There is no official word on Jones' injury or amount of time he'll miss, but his knee strain is likely to keep him out for a couple of weeks.

Dwayne Bowe Still Unlikely to Play in Week Four

Bowe missed last week's game with the Eagles with a bad hamstring, and head coach Todd Haley isn't sounding optimistic about a quick recovery.

Considering Bowe had two scores and solid production over the first two weeks, this could potentially be a big blow to your fantasy receiving corps. Look for Mark Bradley to pick up the slack, or start thinking about investing in a waiver wire pickup like Johnny Knox (Chicago) or Pierre Garcon (Indianapolis).

Frank Gore Now Out for Three Weeks

The original diagnosis was two to three weeks, so a solid three weeks (bye week included) means grabbing up and using Glen Coffee is a better idea than originally thought.

Coffee posted modest numbers against Minnesota, but his 25 attempts suggest a lot of work against the Rams and Falcons, two teams that have had trouble stopping the run.

Detroit's Kevin Smith Status Uncertain

They just got a heck of a game out of Smith in their win over Washington, so getting him back as soon as possible is priority number one.

On that same note, rushing him back from his shoulder injury probably isn't something Jim Schwartz is looking to do either.

The Lions are going up against a solid Chicago Bears defense in week four, so it wouldn't be a shock to see the Lions sit Smith in favor of Maurice Morris.

Quarterback-Depleted Dolphins Swing Trade for Tyler Thigpen

The trade sent a future undisclosed draft pick to the Chiefs. Thigpen has a lot of talent and potential but for now is just being added as veteran insurance.

The Dolphins would like to see what they have in Chad Henne, but if he falters in the next two weeks or so, you could see Thigpen or even Pat White hitting the field.

However, with Miami already in an 0-3 hole, it wouldn't be surprising to see Henne start the rest of the way either.

Eagles Bring Back Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter

With the loss of Stewart Bradley in the offseason and several other defensive issues, Trotter's experience in the system and with the Eagles is welcomed.

The team and Trotter only agreed on a one-year contract, however, so if you're targeting Trotter as an IDP replacement for one of your ailing starters, you may want to wait and see how he fares after the bye week.
