We lost an icon Thursday with the passing of pop legend Prince, and in the hours after the news of his death broke, the sports world took to social media to pay its respects to the late singer.
first reported the news just before 1 p.m. on the East Coast, and the Associated Press received confirmation from Prince’s publicist shortly thereafter.
Fans everywhere were heartbroken.
The impact Prince, who died at the age of 57 at his home in Minnesota, left on this world was evident due to the amount of people in the sports world who tweeted out their condolences:
