Gujarat Lions' undefeated start to the 2016 Indian Premier League Twenty20 campaign came to an end on Thursday, as Sunrisers Hyderabad cruised to an easy 10-wicket win.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took four wickets as Hyderabad's bowlers kept Gujarat's lineup in check during their innings, and Suresh Raina was the only batsman to find some success for the Lions, scoring 75 from 51 to boost their total to 135.

David Warner (unbeaten 74) and Shikhar Dhawan (unbeaten 53) took care of the chase in less than 15 overs, as Hyderabad cruised to their easiest win of the IPL season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Gujarat Lions

Hyderabad, 137/0 (Warner 74, Kumar 4-29) beat Gujarat, 135/8 (Raina 75, Raina 0-16) by 10 wickets (with 31 balls remaining).

Hyderabad won the toss and predictably elected to field, knowing the chasing teams have found plenty of success throughout the 2016 IPL season.

The undefeated Lions suffered an immediate setback, as Aaron Lynch was bowled by Kumar for a duck in the first over, and that quick wicket set the tone for a dominant innings from Sunrisers.

Kumar in particular did plenty of damage, finishing with figures of four for 29, while Mustafizur Rahman chipped in one for 19 in four overs. The youngster made an impression on cricket writer Ayaz Memon:

Mustafizur is a must watch young fast bowling talent

With the exception of Raina, whose patient 75 from 51 greatly boosted Gujarat’s total, not a single batsman ever got comfortable amid the onslaught. Brendon McCullum (18 from 17) and Ravidra Jadeja (14 from 14) were the only players to hit double-digit runs besides Raina.

Memon thought the lineup looked dreadful:

Barring @ImRaina, poor batting by Gujarat. Lions in danger if being bearded in their own den

Raina hit nine fours, but outside of the 29-year-old, Gujarat found the edge of the pitch just three more times.

Rahman and Kumar stole the show with the ball, but Hyderabad’s bowlers all took care of business, and not a single bowler finished with an economy rate in the double-digits.

Chasing 136 seemed like a walk in the park for Sunrisers, but Gujarat’s bowlers came into the contest on a hot streak of their own, playing a big role in their team’s undefeated record.

But the group ran into openers Warner and Dhawan, who scored 23 runs in the first two overs to set a strong pace. After five overs, their strike rate of 10.60 was almost twice as high as that of Gujarat at the same stage, and halfway through the innings, the duo had put up 96.

Memon thought victory was certain at that point:

Cricketwallah @cricketwallah

Hyderabad's victory assured. That's two in a row which brings them to the forefront in the League. Which team is favourite now?!

The partnership would survive the innings, as Gujarat's bowlers couldn't grab a single wicket. Warner did most of the damage with his unbeaten 74 and scored the final runs with a big four in the 15th over.

Out of Gujarat's bowlers, Suresh Raina put up the best figures, giving up 16 runs in his two overs for an economy rate of 8.00.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Raina didn't make any excuses:

We were playing second game here, didn't do much initially. Didn't play well this game. New batter coming, he has to be clear. If he has to go for a long shot or his areas. It's better to have wickets in hand so we can execute later on. Hitting the ball really well. Today's knock was crucial for team. Losing side was not good. Credit to Sunrisers. Have to stick to our basics, strength. Might need to work hard with the new ball, definitely going to speak to the players [about that]

Hyderabad didn't have the greatest start to this year's IPL, but back-to-back wins over Mumbai Indians and Gujarat will provide the team with the momentum it needs.

Sunrisers' bowling appears to be improve with every match, and in Warner and Dhawan, the team has two openers that match up with the best of them. A play-off spot should be attainable for Hyderabad, and once a team makes it past the group stage, anything can happen.
