NFL Draft 2016: Latest 1st-Round Mock Draft, Best Fits for Top Prospects
You didn't think the blockbuster NFL draft trades were over, did you?
A week after the Los Angeles Rams traded with the Tennessee Titans to move up into the No. 1 overall selection in the draft, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns have engaged in a seismic shift of their own.
The Eagles traded up from No. 8 overall to No. 2 overall, giving up, in addition to that No. 8 spot, a 2016 third-round pick (No. 77), a 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 100), a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick.
In addition to landing the No. 2 overall selection, the Eagles also gained a 2017 fourth-round pick.
How does that trade shake up the first round? Well, actually, except for the draft order, it might not all that much.
It was likely before that the Browns could have taken quarterback Jared Goff at No. 2 overall and that the Eagles were eyeing running back Ezekiel Elliott at No. 8. Now, it's just as possible that the Eagles take Goff and the Browns take Elliott, and this updated mock reflects that.

Best Fits for Top Prospects
Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State, and Los Angeles Rams
It may be misdirection, but since the Rams traded up to the first overall pick, there's been a lot of buzz that they're eyeing California quarterback Jared Goff.
However, Carson Wentz seems like the better fit for their scheme and for what they need their signal-caller to do on the field.
ESPN's Todd McShay agrees:
Why is Wentz such a good fit with the Rams? Well, to start, even though some may question the level of competition in the FCS, Wentz played in a pro-style offense at NDSU, already giving him a leg up to adapt to an NFL system.
Then, there are Wentz's measurables; at 6'5" and 237 pounds, he has a quarterback's brain in the body of a tight end. He has a big arm, and he can throw on the run.
At the combine, Wentz was a top performer in the 40-yard dash (4.77 seconds), broad jump (118 inches) and three-cone drill (6.86 seconds).
Then, of course, there's his fit within the Rams' scheme. Los Angeles relies heavily on its run game, and Wetnz is experienced using play-action fakes and generally lining up under center, whereas Goff operated almost exclusively out of the shotgun at Cal.
While there's no clear indication the Rams are targeting Wentz over Goff, the film shows they should be.
DeForest Buckner, DL, Oregon, and Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have to be happy about how the early picks in the draft are unfolding.
Selections No. 1 and 2 are almost guaranteed to be quarterbacks, leaving some desirable defensive players on the board for the Ravens at No. 6.
The Ravens need to solidify their run defense, and Buckner can offer that and then some.
He's also a solid pass-rusher; in 2015, his senior year at Oregon, Buckner amassed 10.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 83 total tackles.
"He plays with explosive movements and terrific body control for his size, flashing heavy hands and initial power to be a disruptive force," wrote Dane Brugler of CBS Sports.
Stocking the defensive line with Buckner, Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan would be a shrewd move by the Ravens necessary for competing in the AFC North.
Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh Steelers

The recent trades and certain positions locked in at certain picks will dictate much of how the first round is shaped.
One benefit for teams observing the action from afar will be finding that players rated high on their big boards will fall into their laps—and that could be the case for Eli Apple and the Steelers.
"Steal alert. [Steelers general manager] Kevin Colbert stays true to his board and sits back as other positions are snagged," wrote CBS Sports' Will Brinson in a mock draft on Wednesday.
"The result is a rebuilding piece for a depleted secondary."
Apple totaled four interceptions, recovered two fumbles and registered 7.5 tackles for loss the last two years. That kind of playmaking ability is what the Steelers need in their secondary, which was lackluster and leaky in 2015.
To boot, Apple has experience in both zone and man coverage, making him a versatile prospect for the Steelers to develop in their scheme.
