Allsports Commentary:Gretzky out of the Phoenix Fiasco

If you have been following hockey sports news or sports on the web you will realize by now that Wayne Gretzky has resigned his coaching position with the Phoenix Coyote’s

About the only thing that the jokers involved with the Phoenix Fiasco can agree on is that Mr. Gretzky did not fit into any of their plans. Whether it was Gretzky’s legal advisers or Gretzky himself that had had enough, who can tell but the point is when it became clear that who ever was ultimately going to get control of the franchise, would not have Gretzky in their plans, it was time to bow out as gracefully as possible. This would be hard to do considering the mess everything is in.

Gretzky has always handled himself with grace and integrity, something Mr. Bettman and his cronies should consider. At face value Jim Balsillie’s bid is by far the best one out there for the Coyote shareholders but Bettman and his spoiled child antics may not mean that the bid will go through. If I were an owner of one of the other weak sister franchises in the league, I would be very worried if Bettman in fact, gets his way. Gee maybe Gary should just buy all of the poor teams in the stupid locations that he picked.

There could be a saving grace for having Gretzky gone from the Phoenix Fiasco. That is now that he is not affiliated with a team he would be free to become the NHL commissioner and we could be rid of the Bettman cancer. With Gretzky at the helm the NHL will get credibility back and no one can argue that Wayne does not have passion and love for the game. With him there you could be sure that whats good for the game would come first. Gretzky has more integrity in his baby finger than Bettman will ever have, or ever will. In all of this Balsillie has made one thing perfectly clear. Gary Bettman is a joke and should be relieved of his duties before the league is damaged further.
