IPL 2016: Top Run-Scorers, Wicket-Takers After Lions vs. Supergiants T20
Aaron Finch powered his way to the top of the Indian Premier League's run-scorers' table on Thursday, scoring 50 from 36 in Gujarat Lions' seven-wicket win over Rising Pune Supergiants.
Once again, the chasing team recorded a lopsided win―a recurring theme in this year's IPL―as Pune managed just 163 in their innings. Lions' bowlers deserve credit for their fine performance, and Dwayne Bravo added to his tally of wickets, taking a solo lead at the top of those standings ahead of team-mate Ravindra Jadeja and Kolkata Knight Riders' Andre Russell.
Suryakumar Yadav leads the IPL in strike rate, but he has faced just one ball through two matches. This early in the season, strike rates can be deceptive, as all of the players in the top three have faced 10 balls or fewer.
Here's a look at the leading run-scorers and wicket-takers after Lions' win over Supergiants:
| AJ Finch | Gujarat | 2 | 124 | 149.39 |

Finch has started the 2016 IPL season in fine form, and after two matches, he already holds a 21-run lead at the top of the run-scorers' list. He followed up his fine 74 from the opening match with a quick 50 against Pune, playing alongside Brendon McCullum, who added 49 from 31 to give the new IPL franchise the perfect start to their chase.

The two got off to a terrific start, scoring 38 in the first four overs, and the chase was never really in doubt. Finch was eventually caught by Ishant Sharma, while Faf du Plessis, who sits second in the run-scorers' standings, caught McCullum.
Per ESPN Cricinfo, Finch won his second straight man-of-the-match award, but the Australian preferred to talk about his fellow opener McCullum, his new team-mate for this season:
"It's nice to contribute with the bat in two wins. It was a beautiful batting wicket. It was great batting with Brendon tonight. I chewed up a bit of strike initially. Baz is a special player, I'm much happier that he is in our team.
It's a great start. Pune is a strong side that is led well by MS, but the way we've played has been pleasing. Probably if we can pick a few wickets in the Powerplays, it would be fantastic. Jadeja, Bravo have been brilliant in pulling things back.
"
Gujarat is one of the temporary franchises the IPL brought in to replace Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, and the side is off to an impressive start, winning its first two matches. On paper, Lions should be involved in plenty of shootouts all season long, but so far, they've been just as impressive with the ball as they have been with the bat.
Between Finch, McCullum, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik, their attack should be just fine, but Bravo and Jadeja have also looked very solid early this season. The former will always give up his fair share of runs, but as long as he keeps taking wickets, Gujarat will continue to hand him the ball for the difficult overs.

Against Pune, he finished with figures of 1-43, which are hardly impressive, but with five wickets through two matches, he's doing exactly what the team was expecting. Per former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, he did lose the battle against the prolific MS Dhoni late in the innings:
Jadeja finished with figures of 2-18 through four overs, and he'll have his eye on overtaking his team-mate in the wicket-takers' standings real soon.
Du Plessis' 69 from 43 was nothing short of heroic in the loss, lasting all the way to the 16th over until he was stumped by Karthik. He and team-mate Ajinkya Rahane are expected to sit close to the top of the run-scorers' rankings all season long, even if Pune aren't expected to be top contenders for the title.
