Twitter Reacts as Atletico Madrid Knock Barcelona out of the Champions League
Defending Champions League champions Barcelona visited the Vicente Calderon stadium on Wednesday evening to conclude their quarter-final tie with Atletico Madrid. They went in with a 2-1 advantage and the knowledge that they had beaten Atleti by that scoreline in their past three meetings. However, before kick-off, many held the (rather accurate) belief that Barcelona's recent bad spell would continue:

"atletico will not lose to barcelona, they've lost the last 7 in a row, but were ROBBED in the 1st leg and have the best coach in the world

Little of note occurred in the first 30 minutes of the game, except for the point at which Lionel Messi came back to his own box to help out with defending duties:

In the 35th minute, the deadlock was finally broken when Antoine Griezmann unleashed a powerful header to give Atleti the advantage:

At half-time, there were plenty of concerned Barca fans:
"I watched us stink up the first half last week too, we still won there. Bad starts vs Atleti are as much a part of us as winning in general
— Arron Duckling (@arduckling) April 13, 2016"
As the game progressed, much was made of Atleti's defensive prowess:
In the 70th minute, Luis Suarez continued his violent behaviour from the first leg, by landing a rather nasty elbow in the eye of Diego Godin:
"Terrible codazo de Suárez sobre Godín y se salva de la roja https://t.co/Up5wWDFiyo

"Suarez should have been given three straight red cards already over the course of these two legs. Great player, repulsive human being.

In the final 10 minutes, Atleti were clinging on to their slim advantage:
However, in the 86th minute, the pressure was relieved when Andres Iniesta handled in the box, allowing Griezmann to make it 2-0 on the night. Many were astounded that Iniesta remained on the field:

After some rather tense closing moments, it finished 2-0 on the evening to Atleti. There were plenty of jokes at Barca's expense:

And of course, there was much joy on behalf of the Rojiblancos:
"Atletico again showing the strength of 'two-team' La Liga.
