Twitter Reacts as Atletico Madrid Knock Barcelona out of the Champions League

Defending Champions League champions Barcelona visited the Vicente Calderon stadium on Wednesday evening to conclude their quarter-final tie with Atletico Madrid. They went in with a 2-1 advantage and the knowledge that they had beaten Atleti by that scoreline in their past three meetings. However, before kick-off, many held the (rather accurate) belief that Barcelona's recent bad spell would continue:

Little of note occurred in the first 30 minutes of the game, except for the point at which Lionel Messi came back to his own box to help out with defending duties:

In the 35th minute, the deadlock was finally broken when Antoine Griezmann unleashed a powerful header to give Atleti the advantage:

At half-time, there were plenty of concerned Barca fans:

As the game progressed, much was made of Atleti's defensive prowess:

In the 70th minute, Luis Suarez continued his violent behaviour from the first leg, by landing a rather nasty elbow in the eye of Diego Godin:

In the final 10 minutes, Atleti were clinging on to their slim advantage:

However, in the 86th minute, the pressure was relieved when Andres Iniesta handled in the box, allowing Griezmann to make it 2-0 on the night. Many were astounded that Iniesta remained on the field:

After some rather tense closing moments, it finished 2-0 on the evening to Atleti. There were plenty of jokes at Barca's expense:
