Sir Alex Ferguson Tells Danny Willett He Had £8,000 on Jordan Spieth

Tom WebbApr 11, 2016

Danny Willett made Masters history on Sunday, when he became just the second Englishman to win the famous green jacket.

Willett, who was born in Sheffield and lives in Rotherham, won the year's first major by three shots after capitalising on Jordan Spieth's quadruple bogey on the 12th hole to win with a score of five under par.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was just one of the many famous names to offer his congratulations—despite the fact Spieth's collapse cost him big.

"I had £8,000 on Spieth!" the Scot told Willett (via BBC Sport), who jokingly apologised. "I'm so delighted. I'm so delighted, honestly. Happy to throw it away!"

It must be nice having £8,000 to "throw away."
