Ibrahimovic looks set to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer at the expiration of his current deal. Per football writer Kristian Sturt, the Daily Telegraph had reported as much prior to the weekend:

Bleacher Report UK gave their reaction to the report:

Football writer Liam Canning is hopeful Van Gaal will leave Old Trafford in the summer and that Ibrahimovic will arrive after heavily criticising the Dutchman following United's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday:

Indeed, the Red Devils have been poor for much of Van Gaal's tenure in Manchester and are arguably even worse than they were under David Moyes.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the club have gone from perennial title challengers and contenders in the UEFA Champions League to struggling to finish in the top four, so Ibrahimovic's reluctance to join with him at the helm is understandable.

Further, the two seemingly do not enjoy a positive relationship, with Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol sharing an extract from the Swede's autobiography in which he gave his thoughts on the Dutchman:

Solhekol also reports Ibrahimovic is confident he could shine at United despite turning 35 in October:

Though he is in the twilight of his career, the striker is the kind of player the Red Devils need to provide a spark to their unimaginative and often ineffectual forward play, as his 39 goals and 16 assists in all competitions this season attests.

Per BT Sport Football, his PSG team-mate, Edinson Cavani, has said it is "easier to play when he's alongside me:"

The majority of the Old Trafford faithful will likely be hoping to see the back of Van Gaal this summer, particularly if his departure can facilitate the arrival of marquee talents such as Ibrahimovic.

He will have plenty of options when he leaves the Parc des Princes, and after winning 13 titles in 15 seasons Ibrahimovic will undoubtedly be hoping to continue to his incredible run of collecting silverware—which he'll no doubt recognise would be far from guaranteed at United under Van Gaal.
